Mark Prichard started the topic Question on Dutch Tanks – One Turret or Two? in the forum Bolt Action 1 month ago
The Neatherlands PDF has an entry for a “Vickers light tank” with 1 turret mounted HMG and a coaxial mmg. According to the PDF This tank can be upgraded by replacing the coaxial MMG with a second HMG for +15pts. No model number is provided.
Is this a single turret with two HMG’s or two turrets each with a single HMG? When trying to look up th…[Read more]

Mark Prichard started the topic Artillery Observers and Air Observers in Open Topped Transports in the forum Bolt Action 1 month, 3 weeks ago
In Version 3, it states that headquarters units in open topped or soft skin transports may use their specials. Does this also apply to artillery observers/air observers? Could they be in a transport and still call in an artillery or air strike?

How does Tiger Fear work when there are multiple tanks that cause Tiger Fear? If you target one tank while others are still in range and causing it?

Mark Prichard started the topic Timing of Tank Going Open Top v. Ambush in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 1 month ago
What is the appropriate timing of a tank (or non-open top vehicle) going open top to fire a pintle mount weapon and a unit waiting in ambush? The question is coming up in the context of a tank moving up in front of a machine gun that cannot penetrate the vehicle. If the vehicle goes open topped, the machine gun would be able to put a pin on the…[Read more]

Mark Prichard started the topic NCO acting as a Loader in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 1 month ago
May an NCO act as a loader? This is very important when looking at the British parachute diversion squad (pg 138 Overload) that starts with 8 men (7 men and an NCO, per errata) and 2 piats and 2 lMG both that would require a loader. There does not seem to be enough men to fire the weapons unless the NCO is also a loader.

Ahh, we were giving boom chits only after the opponent had a chance to save. That may explain why it was so hard.

So we played a game last night and it seemed so difficult to actually hit an enemy plane. At one point in the game I had 3 Spitfires trailing a Folke-Wulf for round after round, it was disadvantaged the entire time so I fired at it 8 times. I either missed or when I hit my opponent saved with a 6. Is that how this game is suppose to be played?

So all your tough fighters get an additional roll even though you don’t know if they actually hit on their initial hits? Tough fighter get to an additional roll if they are successful on their initial hits, not if they are unsuccessful.

In the errata they address what happens when a Gurkha squad with Scary Blighters! (which halves the initial hits of the enemy unit) engages with a unit with tough fighters (which allows additional hits). Namely that the initial hits of the tough fighter unit are halved and then any tough rolls are added. What happens when a unit has a few t…[Read more]

Mark Prichard started the topic Transports that are also tows. Can they do both in the same game? in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 11 months ago
Some transporters can also serve as a tow such as trucks and half-tracks. Can a vehicle that has a both a tow characteristic and a transport characteristic perform both functions in the same game but obviously not at the same time. In other words, the truck tows on a artillery unit, the artillery disembarks and later in the game an infantry…[Read more]

Mark Prichard replied to the topic Spotter and Transports in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 11 months ago
I found it in the errata they cannot fire the weapons. I assume that because they are not a “unit” that if in a tow or a transport by themselves (in other words the unit that the spotter is spotting for has disembarked) that they do not change the transport from unmanned to manned.

If the spotter is on a transport or tow and there are no other units or models on the same transport/tow does he keep the transport/tow from being considered unmanned? Can the spotter fire one of the extra weapons?

Mark Prichard started the topic Timing of Artillery Declaring a Target and choosing indirect fire in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 11 months ago
Wanting to clarify the timing on an artillery targeting an infantry unit, the unit going down and deciding if to shoot over the sights or indirect. The rule states that the firing unit declares a target and then the targeted unit may go Down. It does say when an artillery may declare it is firing indirect. This is important as an artillery co…[Read more]

Mark Prichard started the topic Measuring From Vehicles in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 11 months ago
When measuring for shooting or for disembarking, do you measure from the model or from someplace on the model such as the Breach of the gun or the back of the truck? For some reason I remember reading that you measure from the model not the gun or the back of the truck.

Would that reasoning also apply to Mortar and Machine Gun Teams which also have a non-infantry model?

Can a artillery unit benefit from the small team once it gets down to 1 or 2 crew? I believe I have read that it cannot, but I cannot locate it again to confirm.

I believe it is extra points because it is a half-track. Half-tracks can go into and through rough terrain which may be an advantage in certain situations.

Mark Prichard started the topic Firing Extra Weapons On Transports in the forum Bolt Action 2 years ago
How many men need to be in a unit in order to fire an extra weapon on a transport. For example, if a transport has three machine guns one can be fired by the vehicle crew, if you have a two man team in the transport can the other two machine guns also?

So if a figure or vehicle is tough it can ignore any damage roll on a 1D6. On damage rolls, do you roll 1 tough roll regardless of the number of damage rolls inflicted or roll for each one? I think you roll for each one, but others in my group think that you do only one roll regardless of the number of damage rolls.

Yeah since I wrote that comment, I came up with house rules where I melded the two game. One of the things I did was to get rid of the reactions except for down, just like Bolt Action. We are actually running a league with the new rule set starting on October.
