Mark Prichard replied to the topic Japanese Banzai from a Transport in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 2 months ago
Right it is a variant of a run order. As such it has been argued to me that you can run out of a transport so you can banzai. However, I read the rule to say that you run at the closest visible enemy and since there is no line of sight from vehicle you cannot banzai out of a vehicle.

The Japanese Banzai Rule allows a Japanese Infantry unit to run at the closest visible enemy and shed a pin marker. Units in a Transport do not have line of sight so they cannot assault from a transport vehicle. So can a Japanese Infantry unit Banzai from a transport?

If a unit has salvo, it will cause the targeted unit to immediately take a break test is a casualty is inflicted. What happens if a unit is charging and a unit uses salvo against it during its closing fire and the break test results in a “stands it ground”? Does the unit finish its charge or is it stopped?

Mark Prichard replied to the topic Can Charging Units Fire? in the forum Pike & Shotte 2 years, 10 months ago
So how does the Swedish Salvo work as it allows Swedish Units to fire on a charge. Do they fire, then initiate their charge or do they they fire somewhere along their movement?

If a unit is given the charging order but does not have enough movement to actually reach the targeted unit, may that fire during the fire phase?

Soviet Shtrafbat squads allow a Squad to have up to 7 unarmed men. According to the Armies of the Soviet Union unarmed men neither shoot or attack in close quarters. In the errata on page 16, it says that unarmed models have no ranged attack but may fight in close quarters combat. So which one applies in close combat?

I remember a thread about this topis previously, but could find it. So if an officer is on a transport during the reserve roll does he give his morale bonus to the transport for its order test?

If a transport and an infantry unit are coming in from reserve. Do you prior to making a reserve roll for the transport have to designate whether the infantry is in the transport or not? Otherwise you could fail the roll for the transport and then roll to bring on the infantry by itself.

Mark Prichard started the topic Shirkers Coming in on First Wave in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 11 months ago
In a number of scenarios instead of deploying on the table, the forces come in on the first wave or reserve. When coming in on the first wave the rules state that no order test is needed for units coming in on the first wave. However, the shirker special rules says that they must be given a order regardless of pins. So do shirkers have to make…[Read more]

Mark Prichard replied to the topic Commonwealth National Characteristics question in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 1 month ago
How does that work with the rules for Commonweaths in the Western Desert Book pg 102 that seems to indicate that you get all the rules for the British army but must choose a national characteristic other than those a purely British force could take. Or are commonwealth Armies not considered “British” for the purpose of the Army rules?

When troops are dug in, they are considered down even if they are not there is a -2 to the hit roll and halves the hits for HE. If given a down order it is compounded so -4 to hit, but does that mean it halves the HE hits again? So if you get 8 hits from an HE4 it would be halved to 4 hits and halved again to 2 hits?
Also, if troops are in a…[Read more]

The rules state that when a unit in a wooden building is shot at by a flamethrower, on a follow up roll of 4,5 or 6 the building is on fire. Does the flamethrower have to hit the unit in order to light the building on fire or can it light the building on fire even if it misses?

Mark Prichard started the topic What is the penetration power for Japanese 320mm Spigot Mortar in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 9 months ago
According to Easy Army the 320mm Spigot Mortar uses the 4″ template, does D6+2 Pins and has a +1 penetration. Does that mean it has an overall penetration power of +5 (4″ HE +which would dole out +4 Pen plus an additional +1 pen) or is it limited to only +1 penetration overall?

If a unit is down and is charged the rules says that hit cannot do exchange of missiles and fights after the charging unit. What happens if it survives the first round of combat? Does the Down unit continue to be Down for follow up combat? I think it is still considered Down regardless.
