Now this is interesting! As I’m about to embark on grabbing the Landsknecht starter set, this is good information.
June 1, 2018 at 2:44 am #136778MehmanParticipantLove it! No idea what you’re talking about with the designations you mentioned, but I’m very interested in the game and what you’ve got going on here. Might have to pick up the starter sometime.
Anyway, keep up the great work!
June 1, 2018 at 2:39 am #136777MehmanParticipantThis sounds like an excellent idea!
June 1, 2018 at 2:36 am #136775MehmanParticipantYeah, I’ll bite (off more than I can chew, probably). For June, I plan to paint the following:
Shieldwall exclusive miniature – He’s been renamed to Einar Greycloak, but that might change to Kjell Silverveins
5 Viking Hirdmen
5 Saxon Thegns
You might be wondering about my “Roman Holiday” of EIR legionaries and character models. The plan is to build them in groups of 5 to 10 men and then paint them in 5-man blocks each. Why couldn’t they be painted in conjunction with the above models? Simple: I’m lazy. No, in all seriousness, it’ll be a miracle if all 11 models get completed.

Anyway, I’ve decided to go ahead and use the 25mm round MDF bases as there seem to be movement trays out there that you can place round-based miniatures in and move around the table. Shieldwall’s skirmish rules win out on this one – actually, it’s the best of both worlds.
May 31, 2018 at 2:15 am #136690MehmanParticipant@John Matthews – Well, when you’re in a position to take the bullet, you do. I mean, you could dodge it, but that seems silly.
ACW is pretty popular, from what I can tell. I’ve been to many of the battlefields around Tennessee, but they didn’t spark anything in me to pursue it to the table. Of course, that was many years ago when I was but a lad. Better to stay away from them now, because who knows what I’d do?
May 30, 2018 at 11:41 pm #136686MehmanParticipantRight then. Since Warlord decided to give us Hail Caesar, Pike & Shotte, and Black Powder as free PDFs, the next few months are set purchase-wise, and my wallet is crying in the corner. They must have been snooping outside our house last night when I told my wife “That’s it. I’m going to focus on these EIR and the Shieldwall Skirmish Starter Set for the summer and not buy anything else”. How wrong I was… (In retrospect, if those words hadn’t been uttered, then the three free rulebook PDFs probably wouldn’t be free right now. You’re all welcome for my service.) Anywho, here’s how it looks:
Hail Caesar
– Germanic Tribes or Dacian Army sets (not sure which to pick up first)
– Germania or Dacian Wars Supplement (probably the latter)Pike & Shotte
– Landsknecht Starter Army
– Battalia Starter Set
– Battalia Expansion Set
– TYW Book SetBlack Powder
– Something dealing with Colonial Americans vs Native AmericansPray for me, Saint George, for I go to battle with plastic and metal miniatures for the rest of time!
May 30, 2018 at 8:21 pm #136682MehmanParticipantThis sounds great and is just the motivation needed to get these 120+ EIR (which I call my “Roman Holiday”) started. Of course, they need to be built… Think I’ll go small this first month on how many could get done.
May 29, 2018 at 12:00 am #136457MehmanParticipantThese Romans look awesome!
May 27, 2018 at 10:26 pm #136368MehmanParticipant@John Matthews – To keep the cost down, I’ll make army lists ahead of time and then only buy those items… in theory, at least. Doing it this way keeps extraneous purchases down to a minimum.
May 26, 2018 at 2:41 pm #136171MehmanParticipantAfter my Early Imperial Romans get here – on Tuesday, no doubt – I’ve got choices to make for when I get paid in June. Serious choices. Things like: should I go for Germanic Tribes or Dacians to be the glorious Legion’s main enemy? Does my Test of Honour collection need to be increased (the answer is yes, always yes)? Is it time to jump into the Thirty Years’ War with Pike & Shotte, or are Konflikt ’47 and Bolt Action the more logical choices (the previous two games bought concurrently, of course)? Then there’s the Gates of Antares conundrum…
How could the Dark Ages slip my mind? That’s never happened before. Anyway, I might end up happily ordering some more Vikings… and Saxons. Must not forget about the Saxons!
In summary: I have no idea what’s next.
May 26, 2018 at 2:21 pm #136170MehmanParticipantLove that picture of the German Teddy Bear!
May 26, 2018 at 10:09 am #136121MehmanParticipantThanks for the replies, everyone! These comments really helped me out. I’ll be playing solo, so I guess they can be based how I want them to be based!
The thing is, I bought about 90 wooden bases when I purchased the Shieldwall Starter Set, only to find out that they go with Bolt Action. Not a problem as that’ll be one of my next games to purchase, but the Commanders will probably go on those, as has been mentioned in the original post. I’ll take a look at Warbases and see what’s on offer.

May 25, 2018 at 9:53 pm #136035MehmanParticipantHello, everyone, I’m Mehman – aka Jack (no relation to “the Ripper”). It’s funny: the new Shieldwall supplement got me into Hail Caesar. Then, as I looked at what Warlord has to offer, Pike & Shotte was discovered. After hearing about Konflikt ’47, that was next on the list to see and want. Might as well have a plan for a Bolt Action army, too, as those two games use basically the same models (although K47’s are more my style). So, when I went to order stuff this past Wednesday, I bought a bunch of Early Imperial Romans. This hobby never ceases to amaze.
Anyway, I’m in deep now. Interesting how Vikings have that effect…
