It’s not a trait as such – if your plane has the dive bomber designation it can make dive bomb attacks

Jet applies to enemy aircraft within range of the Jet if you are talking about the “no climb” bubble – non Jets don’t get the free climb on activation

Hi Ed – Warlord do have one slated for release “soon” ish. If you cant wait then Armaments in Miniature in the US have them. They’re also available as 3d prints from RoCWorks models in the UK and Lead Pursuit in the US

    Hi William

You’re not missing anything, it’s just the game has developed. Initially when the expansion sets were released the idea was these were to allow players to use 3rd party or proxy models until Warlord caught up. When it came around to releasing the A6M2 model Andy took the opportunity to introduce a new trait – No Stalling – which better represents the early Zeros (and Oscars) phenomenal low speed turn ability but restricts it to low speed. You can use either but the new version is more accurate on the whole.

The Oscar Ki43 II Squadron set should come with a new revised card – if you don’t have it you should contact Warlord Customer Service who will send you the correct card

    Hope this helps

Hi – if you mean the Ace Skills – such as “Killer Instinct” etc theyre not available separately. There were seven released with the original Battle of Britain starter set – Lightning Reaction,  Accurate, Slippery, Tactical Wizard, Overshoot, Master Tactician & True Grit. The Midway starter set doesn’t include any, but it does include a much better selection of Theatre & Doctrine cards (you win some you lose some). Similarly when the Ops Room set was formulated we didn’t have the space to include the Ace skills – something had to give. So at the moment the only way to get them is by buying Ace packs OR finding someone with duplicates who is willing to part with them.  Currently there are 34 Ace skills in the game but I don’t know if there are any plans to do an Ace skill deck. Hope that helps

Yes – think of Boom Chits as “significant emotional events” such as 20mm cannon shells passing your cockpit 🙂

    Hi Mark

Cant really comment without knowing the planes and pilot skills. Where you playing to a points total?

Just speculating from now on but……….

If you have poor pilots and a low FP landing a hit can be problematic- particularly against a Robust opponent like an FW, however even then he should burn through his “Robust” cards pretty quick. Also I cant comment on your dice rolls – sometimes you are unlucky or your opponent is lucky

However remember every time you hit you generate a Boom chit , which cannot be dodged, and if they accumulate to the point there are more than surviving planes the enemy breaks off and you win. If you are playing a standard 500 points game a FW190A is potent but expensive at 47 points. That means the German player can either have a full six plane Squadron but only 14 skill levels between them all, or less planes and better pilots. The equivalent Spitfire II OR Vb Squadron can happily take six planes and have 18 skill levels, meaning the FWs are going to be automatically outmanoeuvred an awful lot. The FW player can counter this by only taking 5 planes and getting  16 skill levels but he is still at a disadvantage in manoeuvre and  has reduced his boom threshold by 1 to only 5.

If you want to get some tactical tips and are on FB can I suggest joining the Blood Red Skies Ready Room and asking there ? There will be folks there who will be happy to chat.

    Cheers

Hmm – the answer is “almost”. You get the planes, boom chits, other markers, clouds etc, expanded rules and the like. What you don’t get in comparison to Midway is the Theatre & Doctrine cards. These are available as “The Ops Room” card deck from Warlord though tbh you don’t need them to get started. The main issue with the bundle is the notorious first edition measuring tool which is both the wrong length, and also is a PITA to use. Dice are not a problem as you really just can use normal d6. You also don’t get decals but OTOH just paying £25 for everything so you can pick up the decals from Warlord and still be very much in credit and the Midway issue measuring frame is now available separately too

The fighters are centre stage. You can get a good bomber game running with some of the Air Strike scenarios but fighters are the stars

No problem. People get hung up on bombers a bit – we tried to come up with some way to put them in scenarios with points but it just got too complex and open to abuse. It’s still open to abuse, but that’s the nature of some players 🙂
