richard zamudio replied to the topic Defeating the Japanese? in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 1 month ago
This may seem an obtuse question, but where does it say that bamboo spearmen cannot attack tanks? My opponent is a stickler for rules and he will certainly need to be proven otherwise! Aside from this, all of the suggestions have been very helpful.

A local player runs a Japanese force of 5 Bamboo Spearmen squads( 15 figures each) It is very difficult to kill enough men in 6 turns! Any suggestions as to how to defeat this horde of manpower (short of nukes!)(: In all seriousness, now that the fanatics no longer take morale checks when fired at by flamethrowers, what is one to do?

richard zamudio started the topic regiment vs battalion cost in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 2 months ago
In the Age of Eagles book, it talks about the cost of a battalion. However, I use 15mm figures. Do you pay for a regiment or do you pay for a battalion when using 15mm scale battalions? Or am I overthinking this whole process?

richard zamudio started the topic Stands per unit in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 2 months ago
This may be a daft question: Can you have a unit with more than 4 stands? I realize that a large units has four stands, but I would like to create some units with say, 5 stands. I game with 115mm sized figures.

In the Order of Battle for Napoleon’s invasion of Russia, there is mentioned provisional battalions/regiments. Would there be any difference between the organizations of these units and regular line forces? Thanks in advance for any help!

richard zamudio replied to the topic New Supplement on the Waterloo Campaign. Really? Why? in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 3 months ago
Americans are really only interested in wargaming the US Civil War whereas the British are really only interested in Waterloo. It is a matter of perspective. You can’t “fight” national trends! This statement is not based on any scientific evidence whatsoever, just an observation based on over 30 years of wargaming!

Did the Indian troops serving with the Chindits (77th Division) wear the green uniforms of the Chindits or did they wear the khaki color used by other Indian forces. Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.

Great idea about adding a new “force” to BA! What figures/range would you contemplate for such a force? Were their helmets unique ( i.e. something odd, such as Swiss or Dutch?) Why don’t you post a 1000 point list- give an idea what to work with.

I need the help of the community! Should I have a Russian Regiment (2 battalions) consist of 2 (Small) or 3 (normal) stands? Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.

richard zamudio replied to the topic Slowness of the game in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 4 months ago
I think that part of the problem is the small number of casualties that a unit experiences in a given turn. Since Epic battles are designed to represent rather large units, it would not be unusual for them to experience large amounts of casualties. Perhaps this is yet another problem that takes place when you try to mesh a game designed for 28mm…[Read more]

richard zamudio started the topic Stand sizes in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 4 months ago
A very simple question: What is the standard size (mm) of an infantry/cavalry base in the new Epic game (Warlord)? I have some metal bases in 60×20 and 60×30
and would like to know which is more appropriate for the game.

re Charge the guns: We probably should have taken off units once they break. As they can essentially do nothing, there is no point in keeping them around. As it is, they clutter the board and force a player to move them back (spending time to move them) until they reach the edge of the table. Any mechanism to speed up the game is greatly…[Read more]

I am not sure how to say this, but the game seems to take an excruciating long time to come to a conclusion. It seems that there needs to be a process by which entire stands can be eliminated (with an appreciable degradation to their combat effectiveness). I recently played a game which lasted five hours before we quit due to mutual exhaustion.…[Read more]

richard zamudio replied to the topic What do YOU want to see in Bolt Action v3? in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 4 months ago
I am not sure this can be done, but would like to have a rulebook where all rules relevant to a particular item are in the same place, not scattered across the entire rule book. And also eliminate the odd bits of “trivia” (which are really important!) in the random fashion they are currently located.

richard zamudio started the topic Free units in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 4 months ago
Probably the easiest question to answer, but here goes: Does the free unit count as one of the five infantry squads in a list, or is the free unit in addition to the five squads. The rule book is very vague about this interpretation.

Did the French have engineer squads in early war? If so, I think it would be an addition that many armies already share.

richard zamudio replied to the topic Supplemental Books & New Equipment vs Tournaments in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 5 months ago
The use of supplemental items is very arbitrary. I have seen, for example, chaplains being used in tournaments with nary a question being raised. I find it very frustrating to see certain items being allowed with a wink and a nod, yet other items not being allowed. It gives game consistency a very dubious foundation.

richard zamudio replied to the topic Supplemental Books & New Equipment vs Tournaments in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 5 months ago
Though I have no answer to the query posed, the question of new items (weapons, units, or rules) has long been a problem for Bolt Action. If they are not designed for tournaments, why are they still being produced? I am really tired of seeing something new and then being told it will upset play balance or create some other issue. Either allow…[Read more]
