Warlord Games “toyed” with the idea of decks some time back, selling separate decks for Allied and Axis vehicles. Sales were probably bad and so the decks were discontinued. Now vehicle (and some artillery units like the German 88) cards are included in their packages, but as far as I know there are none for infantry units.

I see what you mean, but why would it have to end its move in a line? Perhaps the men at the back have more movement left and so they all end up in a blob across the road.

The first model to be moved should be the one furthest upfront. Assume it was stopped by an Ambush attack after moving 4 inches, all other models have to be moved 4 inches to…[Read more]

Yes, but lets say a more devious opponent can then string out his men in a line to avoid the HE template doing as much damage, whereas they started in a clump and intended to end in a clump.

Assuming that happens and the entire unit survives the HE attack, it will have to continue its remaining move in a line, because each model will now be…[Read more]

Bolt Action 2nd Ed page 45:

An advancing infantry unit can move up to its basic move rate. This is usually 6” in any direction. Simply move each model up to a maximum of 6”. Remember that a unit must maintain a formation, so once the whole unit has moved no model can be separated from the formation by more than 1”.

The rule above and the indiv…[Read more]

Bolt Action 2nd Ed page 59:

Resolving Ambush Fire: Units that are in Ambush can interrupt any
move made by any enemy unit to shoot at it. The ambushers can interrupt at any point during the move, as long as they can see the
target at that point: before, during or as soon as movement is complete. The player whose units are in Ambush declares…[Read more]

  • One of the tactics I’m experimenting with is building squads with designated roles of either “assault” or “base of fire”

Good tactic as it is also used in real life. I am wondering whether taking an LMG is worth the points.

A 5-man ranger squad with BAR is 75 points with 6 shots. A 5-man ranger squad with LMG is 90 points with 7 shots (as…[Read more]

  • Master Chief replied to the topic An LMG Tean costs? in the forum Bolt Action 4 years ago

I think the Battle of France book is the one to follow. The point cost for the Western Desert book entry is essentially the same as the German Army book MMG team entry without the Inexperienced option, except it has an additional AA mount option for +5 points.

  • And the option to fire a coaxial MMG to go with it 🤔

  • When a transport vehicle is destroyed, the number of hits is equal to the total number of figures being transported.

Interesting house rule, it is “fairer” in the sense that every transported soldier gets one hit (and the rest is up to whether he geta killed). The existing rule penalises small units with fewer than 6 men and favours units with…[Read more]

  • Bolt Action 2nd Ed page 116:

If a transport vehicle is destroyed, each unit onboard suffers D6 hitsroll this number of hits against each unit, apply damage and remove casualties as normal.

I think the intention is for each unit to suffer D6 hits. It might have been better to say roll D6 and apply the result to all passenger units onboard,…[Read more]

Actually that was under the “ORDERS TO TROOPS INSIDE BUILDINGS” section that started on page 122. So a Run Order can be issued to a unit to leave the building, and if the unit can also reach another building across the street (with at least one model at an opening into the building), it should be able to enter it.

  • Master Chief replied to the topic In and out in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 1 month ago

Bolt Actikn 2nd Ed page 123 top left paragraph:

A Run order can be used to either leave the building, to move up or down two floors, to move up to two adjoining buildings, or to make an assault into an adjoining floor or
building. A running unit cannot also shoot – as per the usual rule. Note that some buildings have a flat roof which is a…[Read more]

  • Nice choices. I have always struggled between choosing 1 veteran Sherman vs 2 regular Chaffees with recce ability.

I chose the M3 White scout car over the M3 Halftrack for the former’s longer movement range, although it can only transport 8 men vs the latter’s 12 men. But that is sufficient for my 5-man engineer team. I also chose inexperienced…[Read more]

  • This was also clarified in the latest FAQ Sep 2020:

If a transport vehicle is destroyed, transported unit suffer D6 hits. Do these hits use the PEN value of the weapon that hit and destroyed
    the vehicle?

No, the roll to damage is made without PEN modifiers.

  • Nice choices. I was recently thinking of forming a Chinese force from the Empires in Flames book, and saw it uses the BA20M armoured car, a variant of the Soviet BA20 but with same stats. The BA20 looks interesting as a fast moving flamethrower team with recce capability to escape attacks if needed.

  • What do you include in your favourite 1000 point force? My attached 1000 point US force consists of 2 platoons, each with 1 first lieutenant, 1 regular 6-man squad, 1 engineer team, 1 Chaffee and 1 M3 White Scout Car. Only difference is Platoon 1 has a Forward Air Observer while Platoon 2 has a heavy mortar.

  • Bolt Action 2nd Ed rules page 131:

If, on the other hand, they are chosen as one of the units you set-up on the table, or they are in the first wave, then their own special set-up rules take precedence. In this case, wait for the normal set up to be finished, and then set up any spotters /observers /snipers according to their special rules before…[Read more]

  • Yes that’s my interpretation of the rules. If the target unit is not in a building, it gets 8×1″ templates. If it is jn a building it gets 8xD3 hits.

  • <p style=”text-align: left;”>It should be D3 damage for every hit scored. But they suffer only one batch of D2 pins as stated on page 72 of the 2nd Edition rulebook.</p>
