Master Chief replied to the topic Camouflage nets in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 1 month ago
Good question. I would think camo nets will play a part against enemy airstrikes, but checking the airstrike rules it seems cover does not affect airstrike to-hit rolls, as airstrikes hit automatically as long as they are not driven off by flak.

Master Chief replied to the topic Pintle mounted Bren – bren carrier in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 1 month ago
Bolt Action rules 2nd Ed, page 104:
Pintle-mounted weapons.
Some vehicles carry one or more machine guns on a swivelling type of mount. These pintle-mounted weapons were commonly fitted to soft- skins such as jeeps and trucks, as well as to armoured carriers. They were also fitted on top of tank turrets for defence against low-level air attack;…[Read more]

Master Chief replied to the topic Multiple automatic cannons. How to fire them. in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 1 month ago
Infantry spaced 1″ between bases generally can possibly need more hits than targets with 1″ HE. So if I get 4 hits I may actually hit only 3 guys because of the chain requirement.
The 1″ spacing is the maximum allowed spacing between models in an infantry unit, not the minimum. Hence many times the models will be closer to each other than 1″.…[Read more]

Master Chief replied to the topic balkas (ravines) and shell craters question in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 1 month ago
Good question, they were mentioned in both books, more in Ostfront and less in Stalingrad, but no rules provided. I believe they should hinder movement, some may be impassable to certain units like wheeled vehicles.
But no rules provided, so players need agreement with each other on how these should be treated.

… but there are a number of circumstances where firing AP from an autocannon is a much better choice than HE …
Good point. For a single shot AP vs HE (such as the case of a Sherman), we should fire HE as even a 1″ gives at least 2 hits. For other cases it really depends on the luck of your roll, and the number of models in the target. Note…[Read more]

Just to add:
Is it like a tank with multiple weapons where, although all the quads have to be declared at the same target, you roll each weapon individually?
Bolt Action rules 2nd Edition page 106:
When you fire one of these weapons, you roll a number of dice equal to the shots fired by each weapon, multiplied by the number of weapons. For…[Read more]

Bolt Action rules 2nd Edition:
TWO OR MORE WEAPONS
ON THE SAME MOUNT (page 105)If a mount has several weapons using the HE special rule (you cannot decide that some of these weapons fire armour-piercing and some fire HE, they must all fire the same type of ammunition), roll to hit and then place a number of templates equal to the number of hits…[Read more]

My take is the reserves in this scenario come onto the table anywhere on their side’s long edge.

Master Chief replied to the topic spotter and holding objectives in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 2 months ago
Bolt Action 2nd Ed, Scenario 5 (page 138):
VICTORY!
The side that carries the objective marker (a briefcase) off the table before the end of the game wins. Otherwise the result is a draw.To seize the marker, an infantry unit must advance or run and end its move with one model touching the objective. From the following turn, that model will…[Read more]

I just received my Campaign Mariana book from Warlord.
Victory! (page 11 for Beach Landing scenarios)
In addition to the normal Victory Points available, the attacker gains an additional 1 Victory Point if they have any units within 3″ of the opposite table edge at the end of the game.
So the same question arises … does a spotter count as a “unit” …

Master Chief replied to the topic First game… Questions in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 2 months ago
I hope you had lots of fun in your first game.
1. Yes, there is -2 to hit.
2. From the German Army book 2nd Edition, it applies to both:
HITLER’S BUZZ SAW
German-made machine guns, but in particular the lethal MG42, are vastly superior to their enemies’ and rightly feared by Allied infantrymen. German light and medium machine guns fire one…[Read more]

Master Chief replied to the topic Stop the Madness – Heroically over-sized Miniatures. in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 2 months ago
Hi yes I have these, as well as the US and German packs. I bought them dueing a sale at US$10 a pack. They are less “beefy” than the Warlord Soviet plastic ones, and I would say the scale is ok. I like my armies to have a variety of poses, and so mix and match figures from different manufacturers, as long as they are to scale (as much as possible).

Master Chief replied to the topic spotter and holding objectives in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 2 months ago
And this was the point I was trying to lean towards. Just because it’s not in the rule book doesn’t automatically mean it can be performed.
But that’s the point of having “rules” in every game. If players do not go by what the rules specifically allow or disallow, then the game will be bogged down by such lengthy discussions during the game and…[Read more]

Master Chief replied to the topic spotter and holding objectives in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 2 months ago
The rules do not say anything about Spotters not being able to fire the vehicle’s weapons. However, we know a Spotter cannot use the weapons of a vehicle it is being transported in.
We know that because it was stated in the FAQs (see below) so in a sense it is part of the “rules”:
Can a medic or an artillery/mortar spotter fire the weapons of a…[Read more]

Master Chief replied to the topic spotter and holding objectives in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 2 months ago
I think it depends on the wording of the scenario’s objective. For example the wording of scenario 3 in the 2nd Edtion:
To hold an objective there must be a model from one of your infantry or artillery units (or a transport including one such unit) within 3” of the objective at the end of the game, and there must be no enemy unit of any type w…[Read more]

Hmm so they disallow 2-man teams e.g. sniper, flamethrower, bazooka, and piat teams from controlling objectives.

Master Chief replied to the topic spotter and holding objectives in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 2 months ago
As it is not mentioned in the rules, I would say a spotter is allowed to control objectives. And if it is attacked in close quarters it should be allowed to defend.

The Stalingrad book grenade adaptor option is for the German squad, same as the one in my attachment. So it cannot be used for Soviets or other nationalities.

* 1 pin = -1 moral penality
Yes, for morale testing purpose
* If morale penality = morale value -> then routed
No, the rule says the unit is routed when number of pin markers equal to the unit’s original morale
* Shirkers 1 pin = -2 morale penality, then 4 pins = -8 morale value penality -> then routed (in fact rulebook says “… looking to des…[Read more]
