SteveT started the topic One-shot flamethrowers in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 3 months ago
The German book has the option of a flamethrower team being repack with 2 one-shot weapons.
Now, it would seem from the rules that when the flamethrower is use in a one-shot way, the figure might still remain on the table. But unarmed (?) in this case.
Alternatively, I could see how the rules for depleted flamethrowers means the figure is…[Read more]

Yes, I have based my Napoleonic light horse with 4 horses, 5 for heavy so you can immediately see what is what. For ACW 4 seems good.

Thanks Al. So when you did the ACW at 3 bases, did you use 3 bases for cavalry too? How about artillery, did you go 1 or 2 bases per “unit”?
Cheers

Yes, another questions about frontages..
According to the new “epic” booklet, atypical cavalry unit would have a smaller frontage than a standard infantry unit. (3 bases to 4). I thought the idea of BP was to ideally have units with matching frontages? (Otherwise what happens when 2 cavalry hit 1 infantry’s front… seems to have a game effect…[Read more]

Page 121 French Army design list
In the cavalry brigade box it says both of these things, which I think contradict each other?
(1) Note: all regiments in a brigade must be the same class i.e. medium or light.
(2) Note: up to half of all regiments in a brigade must be Line Light
In my understanding it means if I choose to have 2 regiments in…[Read more]

Thanks, Mike.
It occurred to me that if bases were mounted so that one strip could be removed , 2 bases would be able to make a perfect square…

Cheers. I had wondered about keeping 1 strip removable , that would allow even 2 bases to make a square..

In Epic , how are people handling units going into squares that have less than 3 strips?

SteveT replied to the topic Too hard to paint Epics in the forum Black Powder 1 year, 5 months ago
For anyone who might be having similar problems, the best approach I found was black undercoat, then blocking colours on afterwards.
Results were quite acceptable even to a critical like me.

I got some Napoleonic Epics and tried painting them. But found my eyes could not cope. I tried using a 1.75 x magnifier and still hard. They just don’t look right, what details I painted become so small as to just merge into a mess.
I used to paint 6mm and those seemed easier — I think its because Epic scale is small but still large enough to de…[Read more]

SteveT started the topic Splitting Epic Bases in the forum Black Powder 1 year, 6 months ago
I am toying with the idea of getting the Epic scale Napoleonic.
Looking at the standard way they supply infantry I cannot really see how they would form squares, or allow many changes in formations such as line vs column unless each regiment was made of many bases. I read some people cut each strip of infantry in half. Is that realistic? I…[Read more]

SteveT replied to the topic HQs doing Snap to Attention inside a transport in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 7 months ago
From the rule book:
“Units inside transports cannot be influenced by beneficial friendly rules either, such as the morale bonus or ‘You men snap to action’ ability of an officer near the vehicle.
Officers and other HQ units can potentially ride in vehicles, and as a general rule, their special abilities do not work while they are being tra…[Read more]

SteveT replied to the topic no lmgs in folgore in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 9 months ago
Yes, exactly what Nat was saying. Do not expect consistency or fine-tuned balanced in some of the campaign books, as they were often design as stand alone experiences.
It could also simply be they missed the LMG line in Western Desert, but it has not yet been picked up in Errata. It is very odd that an infantry unit not to have that, unless t…[Read more]

SteveT replied to the topic Should I introduce my oldman to BA with his old 1/72 scale soldiers in the forum Bolt Action 2 years ago
I’ve recently started alternative armies for BA in 15mm. (Flames of War). Base them on metal washers as it stops them falling over. I went for 15mm diameter. 10mm clashes won’t fit on lots of the smaller figures built in bases, and 20mm just leaves them looking too spread out. For a mortar or MMG team, I use regular BA single-man base.
Just c…[Read more]

SteveT replied to the topic Defeating the Japanese? in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 1 month ago
I play Japanese a lot and the thing I fear is the enemy keeping at range, especially artillery/mortars and tanks – suicide bombers can’t do much if the target is far away. Depends on the scenario, if high terrain or it’s one of those where you both rush in, chances are I am going to come off better, but any relatively open table really makes it…[Read more]

Still amazes me how I seem to find questions I can’t answer in the rules…
I know you can’t move a fix weapon with Advance and then Fire.
But I am not sure about firing a howitzer from a tank? I think its ok?
How about a mortar that is part of the weapons of a halftrack?
Thanks
