very interesting. I have a hot wire cutter and may attempt to make something like that out of dense foam
April 17, 2020 at 1:05 pm #177277VincentParticipantI found this one on internet and used it since. Thanks for drawing it up. The only thin I misss is the ciritical damage chart. It turns out that this is needed quite often (page 21 I now know by heart)

It wasn’t the honorable thing to do. This sentiment did matter in those days. Another example of this: it was perfectly viable to surrender to a bigger ship, but not before the bigger ship had fired at least one gun in the general direction of the smaller ship. Thus honour was saved. This is what the ‘rules of engagement’ special rule reflects. Mind you, the little bugger must not take it in it’s bold head to shoot at the big guy or he’ll have it back.
Of course it did occur that bigger ships fired upon smaller ones. Yet this did take a decision to act against the ruling ethics. So that’s what you test for. All guns are trained on the smaller vessel as prime target. The men’s hands are itching to fire the guns. However on the last moment the captain decided to be an officer and a gentleman and does not give the order to fire.
This can be a poor decision as I found out once. The brig that thus escaped a broadside returned the compliment by firing a stren rake at close range! You just cannot trust them, can you? 😉

The last game was scenario 2 Letter of Marque. The Brits had a 3rd rate, a frigate and four brigs. The Spanish had a 3rd rate, a frigate, two brigs, a large merchant and a small merchant. The Brits had slightly more points. Nevertheless the Spanish managed to get the Merchants off the oposite side of the table unharmed. The Brits lost the frigate and a brig. The Spanish lost a brig. It must be said that the Brits were highly unfortunate in having their frigate bow raked by it’s opposing number at point blank range and full impact including a critical damage. The latter precluded the Brit to pass skill tests. As it suffered so much damage it had to take a skill test of strike the colour, the latter happened. Thus the Brits were not able to block the Spanish route to safety whilst the 3rd rate was kept at bay by the Spanish 3rd rate.
Frankly I do enjoy playing with the Spanish (even when using the national rules) as it offers so much more of a challenge. And yes, it can be done.

So they do have their function to indicate the level of sail, but do not hinder play. I find it much easier to move the ships around without the wake markers.

That’s not a problem as the figures in a unit have to stay within range of each anyway. Losses can be recorded by putting a chit on/next to the base until all are casualty.
January 27, 2019 at 10:00 am #154151VincentParticipantThanks for your reply invisible officer. All the more reason for an official guide form Warlord on how to calculate Hull value, even if it is in general terms.
Furthermore, what would you suggest for Hull value for a KFK?
January 26, 2019 at 8:59 pm #154149VincentParticipantMe too. I’d like to see some general rule for calculating Hull points. I want to launch a Kriegsfischkutter. Definitly a small vessel (about the size of a Vosper). I took the Hull points similar to the Vosper as both vessels would have been made of wood. As for speed I found out that the max speed ratio was about 1:4 compared to the Vosper, so I took a quater from the Vospers speed.
A general rule would be very much apreiciated.
