Our gaming group’s Rules Lawyer is in love with Chaffees, specifically for the recce ability. You could definitely do worse….

Aidan, a heavy mortar is an excellent idea. IIRC, you need to take a Regular unit to get a spotter. I’d recommend it….

L.T. Russell started the topic Vehicle Questions in the forum Bolt Action 5 months, 3 weeks ago
I’ve been playing Bolt Action for about five years now. Bolt Action and Konflikt 47 are the games that got me into miniatures gaming. I’ve picked up a number of the army and campaign books, as well as the basic rulebooks. Eventually I’ve noticed several discrepancies, mostly in German vehicle stats, since I mostly play Germans. I refer to boo…[Read more]

In the Konflikt 47 Resurgence expansion, a player can get a Veteran tank recovery tractor, with MMG, for 29 points. A softskin vehicle, with an armor class of 6….

At my local game store I heard a rumor about a second edition of Konflikt 47 coming out after the release of Bolt Action 3rd edition. Anybody hearing anything?

L.T. Russell replied to the topic Light Machine Guns as part of an Infantry Section and Medium Machine Guns in the forum Bolt Action 8 months, 2 weeks ago
Howdy Donald Linn! I’ve noticed some of the folks I game with are hyper-aggressive, which is easy to do since minis don’t bleed. I’ll try to field “assault” squads that are mostly armed with SMGs and STGs. Then I’ll have a “support” squad, armed with 2 LMGs and rifles, that’ll stand-off in good cover and provide long-range fire….

Howdy martyn!
It was a fair question. One a the main reasons for the development of the M1 Carbine was for weapons crews, who were generally not issued infantry rifles, to have something more effective that a pistol. In the books, HQ units generally list under Weapon; “Pistol, submachinegun, rifle or assault rifle as depicted on the model. I’…[Read more]

Howdy Ian!
On the one hand I agree with you. Machineguns DO seem somewhat under-powered in the Bolt Action world. I don’t feel it as much, since I play Germans almost exclusively. I believe the suppression-fire rules are an attempt to alleviate that. As a former machinegunner, I find it ludicrous that light, medium and heavy MGs all hav…[Read more]

So Tiger Fear is pretty much totally neutered now. Perhaps Bolt Action 3.0 should give German players something they can actually use….

L.T. Russell replied to the topic Penetration in the forum Bolt Action 1 year ago
In our recent Konflikt 47 league, I used Panzerschreck teams to blow up Russian Ursus infantry and an American player used Bazookas on some of my Nacht Alben. Penetration makes it easier to kill everything….

L.T. Russell replied to the topic NCO acting as a Loader in the forum Bolt Action 1 year ago
Interesting question Mark! On the one hand, an NCO shouldn’t shirk helping out with his unit’s work. On the other hand, he’s not running his unit if he’s doing a Private’s job of sticking another shell into a PIAT or feeding belts into an LMG. Sounds like this unit needs a ninth man or some weapon is undermanned….

L.T. Russell replied to the topic What do YOU want to see in Bolt Action v3? in the forum Bolt Action 1 year ago
That seems like a fair spread of ranges coljack. If I was an American player, I’d expect to be getting a little more outa my M2s….
There’s also the firepower of the semiauto rifles. I’d HATE to be the guy with a 98K, trading shots with either of the M1s….but too much detail, start losing playability. That be the kinda detail in a sq…[Read more]

Howdy Stuart! I found this on WE ARE THE MIGHTY;
“Unlike the dog training programs of the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard, the Marine Corps dogs were trained exclusively for combat roles. Being a strictly combat organization, the Corps had no interest in training dogs unless they contributed directly to killing the enemy or saving Marines. This…[Read more]

Howdy Stuart! Just found this. I don’t have EMPIRE IN FLAMES. This sounds kinda bogus to me. IIRC, USMC War Dogs are “attack dogs”, they primarily used Dobermans. An “attack dog” IS a weapon, at least in close combat, IMHO. If I’m the average WWII Japanese soldier, at 5′ 3 1/2″ and 120lbs, I don’t know that I wanna hand-to-hand a Dober…[Read more]

I was a Light Infantryman for 17 years, retiring in 2000. Our medics always carried rifles, just like the rest of us. IIRC, the only person unarmed was the Chaplain. He did carry ammo for the MGs, though….

Howdy Gents! Neely, sounds like you ran into a serious jerk….
I’m still trying to figure out a real reason you can’t fire an SMG or assault rifle from horseback. It’s not like the sound would scare a horse that can handle rifle or pistol fire. I’ve fired both SMGs and assault rifles, they don’t recoil any more that a rifle. Is this just arb…[Read more]

Howdy Nat! IINM, max effective range for a standard military rifle, with iron sights, is gonna be something like 600 yards. To shoot a point target at a mile, you’d need a sniper-grade weapon, match ammo and a decent scope….AND be a better than average shooter. You could maybe hit an area target at a mile with iron sights. I made Sha…[Read more]

Howdy Attention Span Labs! Yeah, I’ve played my Germans against a couple of our Brit players and those squads full of MGs are murder.
