    Aircraft should be fairly effective vs ships.  I have the big hardback book and I cannot find the rules on AP for bombs and dive bombers or reducing the ships armour because the are hitting from above rather than the belt armour.  Can someone help here ? Otherwise how does an aircraft damage a ship with armour 7 ?

    Its in the flights stats section of each nations arsenal.

    level bomber (ie the B17) have the heavy trait – this is a possible critical on a natural 5 or 6.

    Dive bombers & torpedo bombers have the devastating trait – this means they ignore the ships armour and do hull damage (only armoured deck or torpedo belt can modifiy it) and do possibly a critical on a natural 5 or 6.

    Normal bombers have AP 0 or AP -2, which is about right (apparently! I dont know personally)
