ParticipantHi All,
In a recent game we had some issue with “dead” artillery.
For example, I had 2 autocannon within 12′ from each other. One autocannon lost all it’s crew. In the rulebook, it is said that you don’t need an order to re crew an artillery, so we assumed that, when the “dead artillery” dice come up, the other artillery crew can run toward it, obviously without firing it.
Then my adversary wanted to destroy the gun: how he can do it? The gun has no profile. Can it be destroyed by an HE round?
Thank you for your support!

Participant1 ) the order die of a crewless gun is placed on the model – pg 126, 2nd paragraph ‘damage on artillery units’
2) the bit about order die being returned to the bag as normal on pg 127 is the die from the now recrewed gun!
3) unmanned guns are auto destroyed by enemy units moving to within 1″ – pg 126
3b) if no potential crew are on the table then convention is to remove the gun model.
3c) with the removal of exceptional damage there is no way to shoot the guns in v3!so to expand the re-crewing.. this is poor/ unclear writing in the rulebook – you dont need to give an order of ‘recrew’ but as you cant give instructions without orders you do need to give an order to the gun with crew…
so you can say giving gun B a fire order, but sending 2 crew off to gun A…
gun A be gets a fire order and fires as normal
gun B’s down order gets changed to a RUN signifying that its now crewed again but cant activate -> this is because its said that the move of the crew is treated as a RUN orderas said POOR rules writing (shock!), needed clear explanation of how it works and an example …but WL seem to hate putting examples of complex rules in to their books, and would rather just leave it ambiguious and up to the players :/
