So when you go off “British Summer Time”, is it called “British Standard Time”
If so isn’t it confusing when the acronym stays the same
Just a stupid assumptive observation from some one who’s too pretty to be the ugly American, y’all can just call me the anal American instead 😊
August 21, 2018 at 7:55 am #143694Big AlParticipantConfusing for who?
It isn’t confusing at all. It was put in place so that farmers could get some required work done in daylight that could not be done when dark. It doesn’t confuse anyone here or on the Continent. It has been like it for decades. Ten to be precise. It started in 1916, so there should be no confusion the world over!
August 21, 2018 at 7:58 am #143695Dr DaveParticipantIn the “winter” months we revert to GMT – Greenwich Mean Time.
It looks as though the BP2 release will be simultaneous and global.
August 21, 2018 at 9:24 pm #143821Big AlParticipantTo be honest, one of the biggest issues with the rules, (and this is one that causes a lot of misunderstanding and a lot of questions asked) is the lack of explanation or diagrams for what constitutes a charge into a flank and how any “supporting” units are affected by the flank charge. A common question is “Does the unit to the rear of the one charged fight, support or what?”
All of the examples of combat and charges in the book involve frontal contact.
It is too late now, but had I known that the book was being revised, I think I would have contacted Rick and asked him to consider including such examples for clarity. It is the same in the HC rulebook, so Rick, if you read this and considering revamping Hail Caesar, please Consider including an example of a flank charge and how it should be resolved.
August 21, 2018 at 10:04 pm #143825PeterParticipantI second that big Al
The original rule book was like let’s take notes as we go after a few beers .
Rather than a collated thread of rules all interlinked as required rather than perpetual page turning and semantic discussions ie: is this what they meant? / but it say earlier that they do or don’t???? Or they described it this way earlier but now call it this
I hope this doesn’t sound like I want nanny rules but please BE CLEAR esp now
you’re doing V2 , otherwise dont call them rules rather call them possible ideas to be re- interpretated yourselves every time an event happens
Disorder is all important and in basic rules unadjusted dive roll is 6 happen quite often. Perhaps my biggest bugbears are artillery footprint and fairly impotent cavalry who if they do advance out front can often stay there doing nothing until they agree mangledAugust 21, 2018 at 10:22 pm #143826PeterParticipantI see spelling mistakes
Dice rolls of 6 happen A LOT IN OUR BATTLES
Also another bugbear =marauders sorry but I dont buy into it brigades etc stayed generally together and in command and also in command of their division.
I dont game Colonial or small engagements so I do see how some of those rules would work at smaller conflictsAugust 22, 2018 at 6:44 am #143832Big AlParticipantI understand what you are saying about disorder, Peter, but I haven’t experienced it as often as you appear to have done. A rule shouldn’t be changed because of that.
I remember a friend was going to change a rule in his game after my poor dice rolling during play testing. I pointed out that my poor rolls didn’t mean that the system was faulty. It just meant that I had one of those evenings!
However, I do feel that adopting the Hail Caesar disorder rules would be an improvement. As to the Marauder Rule, remember that it is a Special Rule. You don’t have to give it to a unit. If you feel it does not fit in with the period you are playing, then don’t give it to the specific units. It shouldn’t be removed from the rules because, as you said, it works with some periods and some units in the Napoleonic era (assume that is what you are referring to) for example, Cossack cavalry.
August 22, 2018 at 11:24 am #143874Charge The GunsParticipantRick didn’t mention any big buff being given to cavalry in the WI interview. I’ve not heard this problem with cavalry before. They appear suitably scary to face in the games I’ve played.
August 22, 2018 at 6:27 pm #143947Big AlParticipantPreordered my copy. Now I just have to decide if I can go to the Open Day to pick it up or wait for delivery!
August 22, 2018 at 8:49 pm #143959Dr DaveParticipantI suggest you do whichever means you get it sooner. Read it, digest it, meditate on it – then sit back and await our questions?
August 22, 2018 at 8:58 pm #143963Big AlParticipantHahahahaha!
Well, the advantage of going to 5e Open Day is that I will be able to chat to Rick and get a few pointers on the changes. I mean more details than the WI interview!August 23, 2018 at 6:59 am #144041Charge The GunsParticipantThe collectors edition looks fabulous. Easily worth it for a better cover. I expect the collectors edition will include the long awaited +1 for British troops 🙂
August 23, 2018 at 8:30 am #144079Dr DaveParticipantCollectors for me to, if only to have access to the extra optional rules!
August 23, 2018 at 10:26 am #144118IgorParticipantAnd what`s about the starter set? Is it going to be modified or only the rulebook will be replaced?
September 4, 2018 at 2:03 pm #146230MarkParticipantYes that is a good question Igor, I would like to know as well !
Has anyone been able to read or have more information about the rules changes ? -
