The thing that annoys me the most is the rubbish army lists – you can drive a horse and coach through most of them and get very competitive but completley unhistorical army lists. This is mainly lazy writing, I think, but Panthers and panzerfausts in 1941 just doesn’t sit well with me.

In other words, you are getting a zoomed-in view of a tiny area of battle, with units chaotically interacting in the field already haven taken various losses and gained temporary attachments of all kinds. You could even argue that fielding units of the precise size in training manuals and having them always all together on the field in the same place at the same time would be unhistorical at this scale of operations.
I have not seen any theatre lists with tech that was not then available, but yes that would be absurd, and they should be flamethrowered on discovery. The generic “Reinforced platoon” lists, if that is what you are getting at, I would rather they deleted entirely, but they are a platform to get people into the game/hobby/company without which those of us with historical grounding would have fewer good figures and opponents.

Even if you only have the Bolt Action Second Edition rule book and nothing else (like the campaign books), the Panther tank is not a choice for a 1941 game. Yep, even when using the Generic Reinforced Platoon in the BA2E rule book (or BA1E for that matter), the notes and unit stats for the Panther tank say which years it can be used. Hope this helps.

A Panther tank and panzerfausts are available to Romanians in 1941 in the theatre selections due to lazy list writing. The theatre selectors in the army lists should be more accurate to stop Soviets using captured panzerfausts in Stalingrad. These unhistorical examples are in the theatre selections in the main army books, so you don’t need to use a generic platoon to use them. But I agree the campaign books themselves are much more accurate.
