Hi, was playing v3 last, and the question came up about command vehicles.
Can you just add the 10 points to any vehicle listed, and that’s your command vehicle,
or do you have to take a command vehicle from the list?
November 28, 2024 at 12:18 pm #190674NatParticipantSo this isnt very clear in the rulebook BUT was clarified on Facebook & in one of the articles …
For armoured pltns:
If you include a vehicle that has the command vehicle trait in YOUR LIST then they are automatically the platoon commander.
If you dont have a command vehicle in your list you MUST upgrade ONE to be a command vehicle even if it doesnt normally have the option. This can be ANY of the vehicles in the armoured platoon.Command Vehicles are platoon commanders so you cant include more than one in a platoon … how this interacts with rifle platoons and transports is any ones guess!

1 x T60
2 x BT7
1 x T34/85None of these have the command vehicle option so I have to upgrade one of them to be the platoon commander for +10 points.

Well on page 149 it describes command vehicles interactions which seem to only involve other vehicles. Though they could receive other orders from other officers. So while infantry platoon and company commanders can seem to confer a morale bonus to vehicles like tanks (Though not cumulative with the command vehicle bonus) a command vehicle can’t confer a bonus to infantry. Which saved me in last nights game 🙂
November 28, 2024 at 3:25 pm #190679NatParticipantThey cant receive orders from platoon commaders, as they count as platoon commanders for issuing and receiving orders, but can from company officers. (pg 149 and 113)
As a comander they CAN give their +1 morale to infantry… (there’s nothing stating that they are limited to giving morale to vehicles so therefore the default rules of morale being applied to all friendly units in range should work)The point I was making is they count as platoon commanders and you can only have one comander in a platoon…. So depending on how you read the rule depends on if you can even take them (transports with command vehicle upgrade) in a list….
Now IIRC it says they counts as a pltn cmdr for giving and recieving orders.. which would mean they can be taken in a rifle pltn, but that then breaks the armoured pltn limit of only allowing one! (IE why are Armd pltns limited to one cmnd vehicle but rifle pltns can take as many as they like?)
November 28, 2024 at 6:07 pm #190682Capt ScarlettParticipantNat, could you provide a link to the article? Thanks

Second sentence of the command vehicle rule, p149. ‘The command vehicle adds a morale bonus of +1 to itself and to any other friendly vehicle within 12″ ‘
Command vehicles only benefit vehicles.
November 29, 2024 at 8:51 am #190684NatParticipant@Stuart – fair…. shows how much I use it :p (to wit – I dont… normally forget which tank IS my command vehicle!)
@capt Scarlett – cant find it now 🙁 … wondering if it was a Warlord one now :/
November 29, 2024 at 11:20 am #190685Capt ScarlettParticipantThanks for looking Nat.
I see it as you do.
Only the Germans have command vehicles listed. As far as I can see, and its not a German only rule.
I am unaware of any other command vehicles listed, I don’t see that changing.
Unless Warlord are secretly working on a range of allied command vehicles.
I hope that scaley back isn’t giving you any trouble.
November 29, 2024 at 11:56 am #190686NatParticipantFrench have at least one… which is a soft skin with zero transport capacity.
November 29, 2024 at 6:18 pm #190687Capt ScarlettParticipantNat, TBH, I haven’t looked that deeply into the lists.
I really asked the question on behalf of another club member, as he was having a problem logging in.
I like you, have the opinion that you can add the command trait to any vehicle.
But, if you differ, my advice to any German player would be to take a command armoured car,
my choice would be 231, upgrade to a command 232, 20mm, MMG and recce rule, Not bad for 105 points.
Thanks for your help.
December 12, 2024 at 3:18 pm #190698InquisitorParticipantAn answer from warlord support regarding this:
The Armoured Platoon Commander rule states that there must be a commander for the platoon, much like an infantry platoon. What is meant though is that when you are choosing your vehicles for the platoon, if you have picked a vehicle with the Command Vehicle rule in it’s profile (whether as a default or an upgrade within the unit) in your pick of vehicles, then it must be that vehicle. However if you have picked a selection of vehicles that do not have the Command Vehicle rule within their profile option, then you must pick on of those vehicles to pay the 10 point upgrade to give them Command Vehicle rule. So for the sake of clarity, if you chose a 223 Armoured Car and a Panzer IV G for the Armoured Platoon, then the 223 MUST be the Platoon Commander, while if you purchased 2 Panzer IV G’s for the Armoured Platoon, one of these Tanks must take the 10pt upgrade to make them the Platoon Commander.
(TLDR: if you dont pick one with command vehicle, then it’s any vehicle in the armored platoon)
December 13, 2024 at 1:37 pm #190704GhettotechParticipantWhen making quick reference charts it would be nice to add the command vehicle stats, too…
My platoon of 3×223 does not have an dedicated platoon commander. Am I doing it wrong?
December 13, 2024 at 2:54 pm #190705NatParticipantNow things that WL DONT say … is can you take 2 (or more) command vehicles in a single platoon… Or are you limited to 1 only?
How do command vehicles that are transports work in regards to infantry platoon commanders who are limited to 1 per platoon? Are they allowed in addition, do they replace the need for the platoon commander or cant be taken? -
