>It is not easier to hit an Eboat at 14 knots than a huge ship at 12. The rule, as written in the book (not the errata) is that you suffer a -2 to hit if the target vessel is going at over 24cm. There is a +1 to hit if the vessel is moving at slow speed and +2 to hit if it is stationary.
The E-boat is moving at slow speed (14 knots) and has a +1 to hit modifier. The tanker is moving at fast speed (12 knots) and doesn’t have that modifier. Thus the E-boat is easier to hit. Silly rule.
Also the tanker can make 3 turns during its move while the E-boat can only make 1 turn. Slower ships moving at the same actual speed are more maneuverable.
Silly rule 2.January 13, 2019 at 8:45 am #153287Big AlParticipantOf course it is. My bad, sorry.
I agree about the manoeuvrability. Fast moving ships should have the number of turns restricted, perhaps to a single turn.
January 16, 2019 at 4:12 am #153431Tony AdamsParticipantThe rule book is back in stock again. Just wondering. Does this printing have the errata incorporated into it or is it identical to the original print run? Thank you.
January 16, 2019 at 4:00 pm #153495Richard CoatesParticipantHi Tony,
the second printing of the rulebook includes all the corrections in the V1.0 errata document.
Second printing rulebooks can be easily identified by the Royal Navy Captain’s picture in the bottom left corner of the cover.

January 16, 2019 at 4:11 pm #153497RenkoParticipantSorry , just saw Big Als post
I see you accept the issue with shooting (and turning)?
Beaufighters etc – yup I can write my own rules for lots of things – should I have to? At least we’re agreed on the mysterious lack of straffing
Torpedo surrender- err no I wont lose because I have more than one boat.
Searchlights – physics. Yes I can write my own rules, but the rules as written are pretty clear only one gun on the boat gets any benefit – really – physics must work differently where you live
Torpedo Reloading – sorry can you give me a reference for that, page and para as I’m struggling to find it?
I know this comes over as a bit sharp, but the problem is I like the game, it’s just bugged to hell. If you just shrug and excuse that then there is no incentive to improve. Just sitting here and accepting the shoddy quality is doing noone any good, nor is defending it.
The cycle is 1. Screw Up. 2. Recognise it. 3 Fix it. 4. Do it better next time. That should apply to all products and services. Just because this is a hobby doesn’t change that.
Cheers

I agree with this. My main problem with Cruel Seas is that the rules didn’t live up to the usual high standards I’ve come to expect from Warlord Games. I could come up with house rules to “fix” the problems in Cruel Seas, but why should I when I spent money to purchase a set of rules that should’ve had these “fixes” already in them.
I’m afraid I will not be playing Cruel Seas as a set of rules. There are other rules that cover the same period & topic without the frustrating holes that Cruel Seas have. The sad thing is that Cruel Seas could’ve been a much better game, there are some good & interesting mechanics in these rules, but the execution of them is flawed.
That said, I will be buying more ships from Warlord, they are very nicely done, I just won’t be playing Cruel Seas with them

This is the problem really. I will continue to play because overall the good bits outweigh the bad, but with a fair amount of “house rules”- at leat until Warlord get things sorted out.

Yup. Our group has already completely scrapped the entire torpedo section and replaced it with house rules. They are absolutely terrible as written.
I just put a post up myself in the main forum, and Im glad to see Im not the only one dissappointed with the overall quality of the ruleset. It feels VERY rushed in some aspects and not properly playtested in others.
Hopefully these issues will be quickly addressed and fixed so that a unifying rulebook is available to all.
January 25, 2019 at 12:44 am #154079RaxonikaParticipantWe have tried the rules and :-
The principles of a Narrow Seas game is great.
The rules book looks good
The rules have some good mechanisms
They are however not clear in some areas, have some holes, and have not been well edited or checked.
This is a pity and has got to a lot of people.Warlord should consider a Live set of rules online so they can make corrections and everyone who buys access (or has bought the rules) can have access to a latest corrected version at all times.
We had a lot of problems working out rams and collisions. The way I read it only a Vet crew can try to ram, but when two boats contact they collide anyway. I cannot see any rules about speed change, and a bow rammed suffers damage in the same way as any other impact ( the account of rams in The Narrow Seas suggests that rangers suffered significantly less than the rammed).
January 26, 2019 at 3:13 pm #154144PeteParticipantSo am I have to spend another £20 for a new v2 book already ?. Or if not how do I go about getting a replacement ?
I have spent quite a lot on this game already
Also would it be good to update the website to show the v2 book so people know that’s what they are getting now, I find these issues really annoying as it blemishes what would have been a great product 🙁
Thanks
April 13, 2019 at 9:32 pm #159929LaurenceParticipantSo when it will be on sale in your webshop?!?
It does not say it is the second printing, or is it?April 13, 2019 at 10:04 pm #159931Big AlParticipantIf it has a little picture of a captain on the bottom right, it is the updated rulebook with the errata corrected.
April 13, 2019 at 10:49 pm #159932LaurenceParticipantHi Big Al
The cover presented in the webshop does not show the captain on bottom right.
As said by Tony Adams in his post on 16th Jan, it is on stock – so where can I choose the v2 and order?
April 14, 2019 at 7:06 am #159934Big AlParticipantHmm! The only copies I have seen in their shop and on the stands at shows, recently, have been the one with the captain on the cover. I would contact them and request it when you order it.
