On the description of several cavalry types it lists “D3” (or “Dx”). What does that mean? Where is it used? Thanks!

This is the Heavy cavalry rule which comes in different forms. Hvy Cav +1, means that when they charge or countercharge they add 1 to the combat resolution, i.e. equivalent to an extra casualty inflicted. Hvy cav +D3 is similar except the addition to the combat resolution is based on the score of a D6 halved, i.e. an addition of 1, 2 or 3.

    You will also sometimes see the +1 / +2 confusingly written as D1 / D2.  So essentially there is just +1 / +2 or D3 (as was pointed out above use a D6 where 1/2 = 1; 3/4 = 2; 5/6 =3).  I actually use a D3 dice.
