I am just starting Bolt Action. I picked up the Last Levy set, Waffen SS set, Charlemagne set and a King Tiger. What are some ideas using these? Thanks in advance.

The Königstiger was used for limited counter attacks but more often using the long range from a street corner to defend three or four directions. The tank that entered a street was doomed. A channel of death.
Panzerfäuste, Ofenrohr, Molotow Cocktails from left and right and from front the 88 mm…..The moment the Soviet artillery ranged in the panzer changed the position. The smoke made the Red air force over town nearly useless.
Not everything works that way in BA.

Some of the most useful for wargaming the German side are those written or edited by Tony le Tissier (served as translator for interrogations and was Governor of Spandau Prison post war) as they give (mainly) the German point of view. Bear in mind the political and cultural biases of the Germans who had lived under Nazi rule when reading them (and also the Soviet Russian sources that are becoming available now).
What comes over is the dense smoke, dust clouds, constant threat of artillery/mortar/rocket attack from both sides, command confusion, disorientation and horrific conditions coupled with dreadful casualties on both sides to make both sides adopt the tactics described the previous post. Of course, the Red Army also employed tactics similar to those used in Stalingrad with considerable success.
In several of le Tissier’s books reference to Volkssturm and HitlerJugend being issued with SS, Heer or any other available uniform, an armband or nothing at all to identify them. So your selection could well be anything from a Volkssturm unit to an elite SS one without changing anything.
You may wish to look at getting these Tony le Tissier books from the library:
“Charlemagne”, “Race for the Reichstag”, “Berlin Battlefield Guide”, “With our Backs to Berlin”, “Death was our Companion”, “Soviet Conquest – Berlin 1945”
As translator
“Berlin – Dance of Death” by Helmut Altner
“We Stormed the Reichstag” by Vassilli Subbotin -
