HE Template Overlap

This has probably been discussed before, but I’m not seeing it. I also don’t see an easy way to search old forum posts, so that’s a second question if anyone knows how to do that.

My question here is what happens when a vehicle gets hit by an HE template. In a recent game, a tank was hit by a heavy howitzer with a 4″ template. There was a second tank 2″ away from it. Does the 4″ template also get to hit the other tank? We opted for saying the template had to cover as much of the first tank as possible before it could hit the second.

p107, Vehicles, Shooting at Vehicles, Hits From HE Shells, first para, first sentence “… the template is placed as close as possible to the centre of the vehicle.” and second para, first sentence “If a vehicle is caught under the template of an HE shot directed at a different unit, always use the front armour value of the vehicle as the vehicle is not hit directly by the shell, just some shrapnel.”

Looks like you played it almost right.
