When a sniper targets a hidden unit, it still hits on a 3 since it ignores all cover bonuses, including those provided for being hidden. Is that correct?

It’s not even that it ignores cover (that was first edition) – it ignores ALL negative to hit modifiers except for pins on the firer and the lone man/team weapon penalty for having lost his assistant.

Target being “Hidden” means nothing to a sniper. Same goes for small team, down/dug in, long range, etc.

Which is why I think snipers are overpowered in Bolt Action … a target in the open and one in a buiding clearly have different chances of being hit, even for a sniper. Maybe the sniper can ingnore cover for the first shot, but after that cover bonus should apply because any surviving soldiers wouldn’t be walking across an open window with their heads held high.

@Master Chief… the book keeping of that though!

Another way of dealing with snipers would be give them their own chart…so something like this…

Target has an advance, fire or no order die has no modifier
    Run order +1 to hit
    down -1 to hit
    softcover has no modifier
    hard cover -1 to hit
target has a hidden marker – 2 (not accumulative with hard cover)
per pin marker on the sniper -1
natural 6 to wound is exceptional damage
loss of team penalty is the sniper gains the fixed rule when using the scope.
