Melee Combat

When two warbands are in combat do they have to keep fighting until the death of one, or can, after each side has had their melee action can I then perform another action with another different unit on the table. In the next phase can I carry on the combat with the two units that are already engaged?

As I read it, if you are already in combat, then you only have two options; to fight (you are locked in combat) or flee. If you fight you have two actions so you would fight two rounds of combat and then move on to another unit.
On page 8 it says… a unit “must perform two actions before you can move on to another unit.”
