Need boarding action clarification

This is important because my son is mad keen on pirates and always wants to sail Privateers. Therefore I need to get this right.

I know that if a ship is going to board another both ships can be at a maximum of battle sails and within 3″.

Q. Do they need to be traveling in the same direction? I see no mention of it, but I envisage the most monumental shipwreck if it was attempted in opposite directions…

In reality you would but to simplify it in game and make to possible I don’t believe the rules state either way so presume u can be coming at any direction that how we play it other wise I don’t think you would ever board if you have to be in same direction. Have played cruel seas for age we use rules heavily modified and I presume after play 3 month of black seas same will occur for you so long as everyone agrees do what u think is right but really any direction make boarding possible and the game more fun, after all it a game and not real life I think
