If the aim of both units is to “spot” for artillery, either as an individual gun or off table battery, then would the FAO night rules (page 221) apply in both cases?
October 16, 2019 at 4:17 pm #169987NatParticipantNo because the normal spotter model is part of the artillery unit & is just a mobile point on the table for LoS purposes. The howitzer /mortar is still the unit that is firing.
So what I mean by that is the spotter model will not get a flash marker as they are not firing (the weapon they are attached to will though). However they will have to test for visibility as ‘normal’ instead of the weapon because they are the one seeing.
If you think of it as the spotter is part of the unit just with extended coherency (anywhere on the table), with a leap frog movement rule (either the gun or the spotter can move), and a worthless rule meaning hes not counted for moral or crewing :p
