One unit is fighting hand to hand against the flank of two enemy units. All three units are equal in size. If the result is a draw, how do the flanked units move? Do both of the flanked units form a line and face the enemy? Do they both get to fight next round or just the one in contact?

Not quite. They get to turn to face, but only one unit can fight in the next round because of the rule which only allows one unit to fight in an enemy unit’s quarter. So one will stand while the other moves to one side and supports.

Don’t forget that all units attacked in the flank can only place half of its attacks (rounded down) to the flank and suffers a -1 to hit modifier in hand to hand. Also, any unit that becomes shaken in combat must take a break test in the event of a drawn combat. I only point this out because it could help to sort out your problem

Is the support unit then  disengaged from hand to hand combat? also in round one can both flanked units fight since they are in the same quarter?

Yes, both flanked units can fight because they didn’t charge or attack. They were attacked and one of them will have been an incidental contact.

Yes, one of the units will become disengaged because there is no room for them both. The other way of looking at it would be that the single unit centre must contact the enemy unit that it is fighting, so the other one will just stand there unengaged.

It doesn’t happen that often, really. Combat is usually easier to sort out than this.

Thanks Big Al. It was a hypothetical I was setting up.
