How do you work through combat with a scorpio?
Let’s say you’re shooting at it.
Do you or the owner of the scorpio determine whether you’re shooting at the scorpio itself or the legionaries? Or do you distribute the hits evenly? If so, how do you determine whether the hits start on the scorpio or the crew?August 19, 2019 at 1:20 am #167103Chris WilloughbyParticipantWe have played that you are shooting at the crew, after all an arrow is not going to do a lot of damage to a solid piece of wood.
August 19, 2019 at 2:42 am #167104AgashaParticipantThat would be fine if there wasn’t a profile for the scorpio itself.
Why does it have wounds and armor if you can’t target it?
August 19, 2019 at 1:11 pm #167173GordonParticipantIt will have wounds and armour for when your enemies try to hack it to bits with sharp things…
August 19, 2019 at 10:25 pm #167190NathanParticipantThe rules covering Shoot actions state that you allocate wounds to the models from the front of a unit first – which would lead you to believe that you’d deduct wounds from the Scorpio if that is what’s closest to you. That being said, the rules also state that in units containing models with multiple wounds, you remove full models first – which would lead you to believe that you’d deduct wounds from the Legionaries first.
This gets even more complicated considering I can’t find a rule stating what Armour characteristic to use against ranged attacks when your unit has mixed Armour values.
August 20, 2019 at 11:52 am #167205AgashaParticipantIf you hit the scorpio first, since it’s in front, then you would continue to wound it until gone, since you remove wounded models before moving on to the next. Then you would hit the legionnaires.
August 20, 2019 at 1:34 pm #167211NathanParticipantWhile I agree that it’s probably intended that the Scorpio dies to ranged attacks first, I think the rules are contradictory. The attacker isnt really “hitting” the models in the front. The attacker rolls Ranged checks, the defender rolls Armour Checks, and then wounds get allocated to the front. But it also says that wounds remove full models from units before dealing partial wounds to other models. So if a Ranged attack resulted in just a single wound, the only full model that could be removed would be a legionnaire.
This still doesn’t answer how the Armour checks work though. If an attacker makes 8 successful Ranged checks – How many Armour checks would you use at the Scorpio’s +1 and how many at the legionaries’ +3?
August 20, 2019 at 9:57 pm #167227AgashaParticipantI think you’re misreading that rule. You CONTINUE to wound the same model until moving on to the next model.
If you want to give some credence to that in the order of application of wounds, you would have to start with the multi wound model before moving on to other models, but I don’t think that’s what’s intended either.
I really wish someone official would jump in here and clear this up. 🙁
August 21, 2019 at 1:59 am #167232NathanParticipantAhhh, I can see that interpretation too – remove models from the front (so the Scorpio) and always try to remove complete models (so allocate Wounds to the Scorpio until its removed).
The problem there is if the attacker passes 8 Ranged checks, you’d have to roll each Armour check individually at the Scorpio’s +1 until it dies – then roll the rest of the Armour checks at the Legionnaire’s +3. Fiddly but it’d work.
Yeah, I’m hoping another FAQ comes soon. I’ve seen lots of differing interpretations on Challenges and Charges as well.
August 29, 2019 at 1:45 am #167611AgashaParticipantI went to the facebook page, and no answer there either. It’s been asked at least three times there. 🙁
August 29, 2019 at 7:33 am #167626HopLITParticipantThere seems to be a lack of contact regarding clearing rules up on the forum. Probably saving all the answers up for one big FAQ…
Would rather someone just give us the answers now and then release in an FAQ later…
August 31, 2019 at 3:05 am #167777AgashaParticipantThe sadest thing about this is this is one of the few things they’ve released so far, and you don’t know what to do with it.
Last time I’m an early adopter of a warlord game. Very disappointing.
September 5, 2019 at 7:52 pm #168006Nigel HeatherParticipantNot based on rules but what makes sense to me.
In my opinion, bowmen attacking a scorpion would aim at the crew. I can accept that if the crew is directly behind the scorpion then it might take the shot instead of the man. So my thought would be if there is LOS to the crew then the crew should take the hit.
But then it is a game so maybe shouldn’t take the rules too seriously. After all in real life you could fire 100 arrows at a scorpion and not do it any harm.
Cheers,
Nigel
