In the image I have a red formed unit that has ended up facing sideways to the enemy blue unit.
What is it allowed to do in terms of movement?
And similar if the red was changed to open order (right side of same pic) what are its options?

A) Let’s assume that it is Red’s turn. The Blue unit is within proximity, so Red can move on Initiative and move back. That would take it away from the danger of a flank charge in the following turn.
A second option would be to try to issue an order to the Red unit to turn and charge the Blue unit.
B) Again, the Proximity Rule will allow Red to move directly away from Blue. This should take them out of Initiative charge range. Again, the alternative would be to give them an order and move them far enough back to take them out of Proximity range, which would allow them to move in any direction.
Or you could issue an order for them to form up and then charge the Blue unit.
