Sniper teams w/o assistant

In the main rules, a sniper team that loses the assistant takes a +1 to hit. OK. But in some of the expansion books, there are teams referenced as having “the additional team member is not used” caveat (ex: the Polish marksman, or Sgt Tung Chi-yuan of China). Do these units take the +1 to hit for this artificially induced handicap? For some, like Sgt Tung who kills on a 2 or better, it seems counter productive: an expert killer who can’t shoot so well, but if he hits, you’re an almost guaranteed kill.

Depends whether the unit retains the team weapon rule or not. The -1 for missing the assistant is from the team weapon rule – “If only one man remains to serve a team weapon then the weapon can still be fired but suffers a -1 ‘to hit’ penalty”. The clause that mentions snipers suffering that penalty refers to the team weapon rule as the reason in brackets.
