Winter is Coming

I painted and abused these Yakovlevs for several weeks. The thought of posting the painting progress crossed my mind but I thought the process these models went through… well, this is a family forum.

For me the distressed quality of the Yaks represents both the harsh conditions of winters on the Eastern Front as well as serving as a visual reminder of the airplane’s poor quality game state.

OK, last shots and final thoughts. The biggest thing I had to resist was to make the weathering too uniform across planes. It goes against my sensibility to intentionally create visual differences within the same military unit. I ended up being happy with the various stages of weathering.
