Decided to theory craft a pair of asymmetrical 500 point end-war Volksturm v. Soviets list using only core+the two Armies of books
Germans. I wound up with these two.- Veteran Oberleutnant+1 man with ARs (103 pts)
- 1+9 Volksturm with Bicycles and 1 Panzerfaust (85 pts)
- 1+9 Volksturm with Bicycles and 1 Panzerfaust (85 pts)
- 1+5 Grenadier Radfahrzug Squad with Bicycles and 2 Panzerfaust (76 pts)
- Veteran MMG (65 pts)
- Regular Medium Artillery with spotter (85 pts)
8 OD, 36 models, 499 pts. Radfahrzug provide an option to get behind the T-34 quickly and hit it with Panzerfaust (1+6 always equals at least 7). MMG hides in cover and denies enemy infantry a path. Howitzer uses spotter to slow down (but strangely not damage) the tank riders and possibly hurt the T-34 while doing so (1/3rd chance of damage if hit), otherwise attack enemy infantry.
Russians
- Regular Junior Lieutenant+1 man with SMG (60 pts)
- 1+10 Regular Tank Riders with SMGs (143 pts)
- 1+5 Regular LMG squad with 2 LMG (100 pts)
- 1+11 Free Rifle Squad (0 pts)
- Regular T-34 (195s pts)
6 OD, 31 models, 498 pts. Use the mobility afforded by tank riding to quickly advance to close quarters where enemy infantry face 22 shots. Others are straightforward.
Problem is the Soviets seem to have an advantage at an eyeballing. In large part due to the free rifle squad being such a big swing at low points. Is this accurate, and any ideas to fix it? The bicycles on the Volksturm, dropping the Radfahrzug to 1+4 and MMG are what seems best candidate to change, but I can’t think of anything for the 95 points that would totally change the issues, much less while keeping the theme.
