Timing of Going Down

Does a unit have to say “Going Down” the moment say a tank fires at it. Or can it wait to see if the tank hits and then go down? I assume both are options depending on how much risk you want to take.

You decide at the ‘target reacts’ step of the shooting sequence, between declaring of targets and rolling to hit.

There were a few places that used the first edition cock up from the HE wording, second edition changed that HE wording to be specifically before the roll to hit, then subsequent errata have fixed the errors in the HE vs buildings rules and HE vs recon vehicles rules.

As Stuart wrote, somewhere in 2nd edition there are some missprints/typos from 1st edition. HE or not, target reaction before roll to hit
