I’m starting on my marines and I am having trouble finding a color to use as a base green fatigues color. Any ideas? Brand and color would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I had this dilemma too. I haven’t started painting yet but I’ve decided on Vallejo Russian uniform. I find some other green colors are too cartoon like. Russian uniform is more matt and earthy.

I know how you feel, no matter how many photos you look at its hard to get single out a shade, in the end i decided to go lighter and slightly brighter so they didn’t look bland on the battlefield. I decided on Army Green from the army painter range for the base, then around a month later i found a youtube tutorial published by the wargamer (https://youtu.be/6KrRSG35l7U) who shows a very similar colour selection.
The warlord website shows a great camo tutorial for helmets and uniform items too (http://www.warlordgames.com/painting-usmc-camo-tutorial/).

Thanks for the ideas. I was looking at the russian uniform green, that’s what vallejo recommends. The army painter green might be just a little “green”. Have anyone seen the army painter “fatigue green” I haven’t been able to get a bottle where I live. Was wondering if that might be closer.

I bought the army painter Combat Fatigues thinking it would be closer to US army fatigues since I just started painting the new US infantry. It turned out to be a bit too light. I had started with Vallejo US dark green which makes the fatigues look like brand new ones with no fading. I settled for using the dark green as a base color, then mixing it with the combat fatigues for my high light. Not marines I know, just thought it might be of some help.

    I am using this method.
