Warlord’s Rapid Deployment Paint System gets miniatures table ready in next to no time. With Macedonia hitting SPQR, we paint up a Phalangite.
Most of the paints used were taken from the Rapid Deployment Fast Paint System Core For the tunic, US Army Webbing was used, and for the gold components Army Painter’s Bright Gold.
Stage 1: Priming
The miniature was primed with the Leather Brown Colour Primer Spray. This choice of colour serves as an ideal basecoat for some portions of the miniature and saves doing it by hand later.
Stage 2: Basecoating
The following basecoats were then carefully applied to each of the following areas:
- Skin: Caucasian Skin
- Tunic: US Army Webbing
- Torso armour: Danger Red
- Pteruges & armour trim: Pure White
- Boots, scabbard, straps, pike shaft and shield back: Wood Brown
- Shield, helmet, pike hilt, scabbard detailing and pike hilt: Army Painter Bright Gold
- Pike tip: Dark Gunmetal
Finally, carefully pick out the trim of the pteruges with Danger Red. This requires a steady hand and a little patience.
Stage 3: Shading
Using a large brush, Strong Tone Quickshade was liberally applied to the model, ensuring it ran into the recesses. Once complete, the same brush was immediately wiped clean, before being used to remove all the excess shade, particularly on the raised flatter areas of the miniature.
Set the miniature aside to dry after this for a minimum of 24 hours.
Stage 4: Finishing Touches
Having left the miniature to dry for over 24 hours you can move onto the next stage, varnishing & basing.
The model was varnished with Anti Shine Matt-Varnish and the base was finished with sand and static grass. This was supplemented with tufts, for that little extra flair.
You’ll notice that we’ve added a design to our shield. Those with a steady hand may consider freehanding the design (in this case picked out with Pitch Black) or if you’re unsure, consider using a transfer sheet.
All Done
With relatively little time investment, this system will allow you to prep whole units or even entire armies for the table. Quickshade allows you to get remarkable results with little effort. Ideal for getting your models to the tabletop and scratching that gaming itch!
