We attended Maelstrom Games’ “The Day I Shot a Thousand” event in Mansfield, Notts last weekend. For those not able to attend, here’s what you missed:
Whilst not a painting competition per se, we did ask for gamers to bring along their models for us to appreciate and to photograph. No restrictions – just whatever they felt like bringing along. Below are the results!
Below we have a bunch of entries from Scarborough College warmages club, from, er, Scarborough…
We’s sent them a box our platic Firelocks and the results are the first paintjobs many of the members had done. We were particularly impressed with the Firelock with back banner. Whilst not historically accurate we were amazed that not only was this a first paintjob by Daniel Sellars but also converted and a scenic base added! Well done to all concerned.

The next entry caught our eye for composition and creativity above all else. Jason has taken figures form a variety of ranges to scratch-build this scene of period fisticuffs.
Last but certainly not least is the entry which blew us away – from Ubique_Matt off the Warlord forums. His wonderfully realised Newcastle’s Whitecoats pike block is enough to have any self-respecting gamer wanting to collect an English Civil War army…
