Samurai Warbands in Erehwon are set to receive some monstrous reinforcements. Fearsome Tengu dive from the skies, swift and deadly…
Whilst the majority of Warlords of Erehwon warbands are able to include monstrous elements by way of the Monster List (and Samurai are no exception to this), the Samurai army list includes details for two specific ‘monstrous’ units that provide a unique flavour. One of these units is the Tengu.
They are half-men half-birds that add a distinctive aerial element to the Samurai Warband. Deriving from Japanese folk religion, Tengu translates as “sky dog” or “sky sentinel”. Though they take their name from a Chinese dog-like demon (Tiangou) they originally were thought to resemble birds of prey – and traditionally depicted with both human and avian characteristics. Described as anything from harbingers of war to protective spirits of the mountains and forests, the Tengu are imbued into Japanese mythology and remain prominent in Japanese popular culture to this day.
Our models depict them as they have most commonly been in Japanese culture – in the garb of the Yamabushi (mountain-dwelling ascetic hermits -believed to possess supernatural powers).
In Erehwon, armed with both the ‘Flies’ and ‘Fast 10’ special rules, these are perfect flankers, or to act as a reactionary unit able to zip to the area of the battlefield that most requires their attention. The unit profile is shown below for convenience:

The Samurai Warband
With the addition of the Tengu, our Samurai range for Warlords of Erehwon is truly one of the most vibrant on the tabletop. These monsters really tap into the fantastical elements of the game. But keep your eyes peeled, these will not be the only monstrous beings that Samurai warbands will be able to call upon for aid…
